Facebook to Take Cut of Fan Subscription Revenue in 2020

The testing phase of fan subscriptions is over, and Facebook will start taking a cut of the revenue, starting in 2020, reports TechCrunch. In 2018, Facebook launched the fan subscription program to allow content creators to charge fans $4.99 a month to access exclusive content and get a fan badge. During the testing period, Facebook did not take any of the revenue. How much they will take and when depends on the platform.

UK Regulators Press Pause on Amazons $575M Investment in Deliveroo

One month after Amazon announced a $575 million investment in Deliveroo, a London-based food delivery service, regulators in the United Kingdom press pause on the transaction, forcing the companies to stop any forward progress. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released an initial enforcement order effective June 24 stating it has reasonable grounds for suspecting that Amazon.com and Deliveroo will cease to be distinct entities if the transaction goes through. If the deal is completed, Amazon would be a minority owner of Deliveroo.

Mozilla Tests Ad-Free News Subscription to Fix Advertising Ecosystem

In partnership with Scroll, investors and publishing partners, Mozilla may compete against Apple News Plus soon, offering an ad-free news subscription service for $4.99 a month, reports BGR. In addition to charging half the cost of the new Apple News Plus, the Scroll news subscription service offers readers some cool features. For example, when readers start an article on a laptop or phone, mobile or desktop, and switch devices later, Scroll will save the readers spot. This is true regardless of where the article is discovered, whether through Reddit, Twitter or another app.

Mad Magazine to Stop Publishing Original Content This Fall

The 67-year-old Mad magazine will no longer publish new content following issue #10, due out this fall. Only year-end issues and Mad books and special collections will contain original content going forward, reports ABC News. Starting with issue #11, the magazine will include classic, best-of and popular past content available in comic stores or via subscription. Mad magazine will no longer be available at newsstands.

Regal Cinemas Is Working on an Unlimited Movie Subscription Service

Regal Cinemas is working on an unlimited movie ticket subscription service, says Deadline in an exclusive report. The service is tentatively set to launch at the end of July. Regal Cinemas has not issued a news release on the service, but Deadline revealed relevant details including pricing. The service will offer three pricing tiers: $18, $21 and $24 per month. It is possible that these prices are based on an annual purchase at $216, $252 and $288, respectively. According to Deadline, the movie ticket subscription service is based on parent company Cineworlds unlimited subscription service in the U.K. which has been around for more than a decade.

Amazon Prime Day 2019 to Feature More Than 1 Million Deals Worldwide

If you arent an Amazon Prime member now, you may want to sign up before July 15, because this years Prime Day is going to be the biggest one yet. Amazon announced that Prime Day 2019 will feature more than 1 million deals in 18 countries, including epic deals on Alexa-enabled devices and special lightning deals. Starting at midnight, Pacific Time on Monday, July 15, Prime members will have 48 hours to access time-limited deals, thousands of product launches, and exclusive entertainment.

Apple to Tweak News Plus Subscription App to Appease Publishers

Despite a lot of fanfare and publicity, Apple News +, the news and magazine subscription service launched by Apple in March, isnt as popular as anticipated. As a result, Apple is planning tweaks to the three-monthly subscription service, reports Business Insider. Apple News + is the subscription component of the free Apple News app. The News + subscription is a revamped version of Texture, the magazine subscription app service that Apple acquired last year. After a free one-month trial, News + subscribers can access more than 300 publications for $9.99 a month in the U.S. and $12.99 a month in Canada.
