AMC Theatres Subscription Attracts Over 800,000 Members in 11 Months

Eleven months after launching its AMC Stubs A-List movie subscription service, AMC Theatres reports that it has attracted more than 800,000 subscribers, far exceeding its goal of 500,000 subscribers by June 26. AMC Theatres launched its movie subscription service, expanding its loyalty program, as MoviePass and Sinemia were experiencing difficulties with their own subscription programs. AMC Theatres says this success has made AMC Stubs A-List the number 1 movie-going subscription service in North America.

Apple Refutes Spotifys Claims That It Isnt Competing Fairly

On Monday, in a filing with the European Commission (EC), Apple refuted Spotifys claim that its cut of streaming music revenue is an across-the-board tax, reports Billboard. Apple said it only receives revenue from 0.5% of Spotify Premium subscribers (approximately 680,000 users) and Spotify only pays 15% of subscription revenue to Apple, not the 30% they claim in their complaint with the EC. Apple also said Spotify has not paid for any of its customers acquired during the last three years.

Red Hat Reports Double Digit Revenue Growth in Q1 FY20

Last week, open source solutions provider Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) reported double digit revenue growth for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2020 for the period ended May 31, 2019. Total first quarter revenue was $934 million, a 15% increase year-over-year. Of this total, $815 million came from subscription revenue and $119 million came from training and services revenue. Subscription revenue now represents 87% of total of revenue.

Ckbk Launches Digital Cookbook Premium Membership for $8.99 a Month

If you are constantly searching for recipes online or salivating as you scroll through your Instagram feed, then Ckbk (pronounced cookbook) might be the subscription for you. Initially launched for those who love to cook in April, users got access to three free recipes a month. For $8.99 a month, they could become premium members and access an unlimited number of recipes curated from 350 classic and contemporary cookbooks, ranked and recommended by chefs and food writers.

Political Publishers Form Ad Network to Compete with Facebook and Google

A bipartisan group of political news publishers has formed its own advertising network – the Digital News Alliance – to compete against Facebook and Google for political ad revenue. Mediaite, Law & Crime, the Washington Free Beacon, Daily Caller, Raw Story and AlterNet will offer a range of traditional and custom advertising packages that include display ads, video, newsletters, sponsorships, social media and other media. The sites have more than 145 million combined pageviews per month, 11 million Facebook followers and 1.1 million Twitter followers, creating extensive reach for the new ad network.

Amazon to Add 15 Cargo Planes to Expand Prime Fast, Free Shipping

Eleven days after FedEx announced it would stop delivering for Amazon, the retail giant had an important announcement of its own, revealing its plans at the International Paris Air Show. Amazon has partnered with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) to lease 15 more Boeing 737-800 cargo planes to add to its Amazon Air delivery fleet by 2021. Amazon currently leases five Boeing 737-800s, also through GECAS. The fleet will deliver domestic packages out of more than 20 air gateways in the Amazon Air network, said Amazon in a June 18 news release.

Adobe Reports Record Revenue of $2.74 Billion for Q2 FY2019

Earlier this week, Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) investors received an impressive financial report for Adobes second quarter of fiscal year 2019 for the period ended May 31, 2019. Adobe reported record revenue of $2.74 billion, a 25% increase year-over-year, driven by strong revenue in its Creative, Document Cloud and Experience Cloud segments. Adobe also reported diluted earnings per share of $1.29 (GAAP) and $1.83 (non-GAAP), beating analysts estimates for both revenue and profitability.
