California Consumers Suing Subscription Companies Over Auto-Renewal Law

California consumers are suing subscription-based companies within and outside the state, in accordance with California’s auto-renewal law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17600 et seq.), for the auto-renewal of subscriptions they did not expressly approve, reports Lexology. Lexology says the glut of putative class action cases are due to a lack of sufficient analysis and interpretation of the law since it was enacted in 2010. Dallas Morning News Plans a Third Run at a Paywall

New Prime Video Offerings Will Make Amazon a Serious OTT Competitor

Amazon.com is planning to beef up its Prime Video offerings soon, reports Bloomberg Business, which could give it a serious advantage over Netflix and Hulu. ESPN Has Lost 7 Million Subscribers in 2 Years

In a regulatory filing last week, Disney (NYSE: DIS) disclosed that ESPN has lost nearly 7 million subscribers in the last two years, says the Hollywood Reporter.
