DISH Network Lays Off Customer Service Workers in Tulsa

Last October DISH Network (NASDAQ: DISH) told Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin it would add 250 jobs to Tulsa, a city that 600 DISH workers already called home. Last week, DISH shared that it would be cutting jobs in the customer experience center, not the sales center that opened last year, reports Tulsa World. DISH did not specify how many positions would be eliminated.

Snap Cuts 100 Employees in Advertising in Third Round of Cuts

The familiar Snapchat ghost isn’t smiling now. In its latest round of downsizing, Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) – the owner of the popular Snapchat app – is cutting 100 employees on the advertising side of the house, reports Bloomberg News. These employee cuts are in addition to the reduction of 120 engineers earlier this month and two dozen content employees who were let go in January. They are part of a restructuring the company started during the fourth quarter of last year.

Red Hat Reports Subscription Revenue of $683 Million in Q4 FY2018

Last week Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), an open source solutions provider, delivered strong results in its fourth quarter and year-end financials for fiscal year 2018 ended February 28, 2018. Total revenue for the fourth quarter was $772 million, a 23 percent increase over the same period last year. Subscription revenue for Q4 was $683 million, a 22 percent increase year-over-year. Year-end deferred revenue was $2.6 billion, a 25 percent increase.

Major Microsoft Reorganization Shifts Focus to the Cloud

In a memo to employees last Thursday, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella announced a major company reorganization that includes the formation of two new engineering teams: Experiences & Devices to be led by Rajesh Jha and Cloud + AI Platform to be led by Scott Guthrie. The reorganization shifts the company’s focus away from the Windows operating system and onto the company’s strongest business units, office productivity software, artificial intelligence and cloud technology. This is the biggest reorganization at Microsoft since Nadella became CEO in 2014, according to The Seattle Times.

Salesforce Agrees to Buy MuleSoft for $6.5 Billion

In merger and acquisition news, last week Salesforce (NYSE: CRM), a cloud-based CRM provider, agreed to acquire MuleSoft (NYSE: MULE) for $6.5 billion. MuleSoft provides platforms for building application networks that connect enterprise apps, data and devices, both in the cloud and on site. The company has more than 1,200 customers including Coca-Cola, Audi, AT&T, Unilever, Netflix, Intuit, Amtrak and Anheuser Busch. MuleSoft will be used to power Salesforce’s new Integration Cloud to offer and improve personalized, customer experiences.
