Despite 20 Percent Increase in Q2 Net Sales, Amazon Stock Drops

Last week, eCommerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced its second quarter financials for the period ended June 30, 2019. One of the top highlights for the quarter was net sales of $63.4 billion, a 20% increase year-over-year, compared to $52.9 billion for the same period last year. Net product sales made up $35.9 billion, or 56.6% of total net sales, and net service sales comprised the balance at $27.5 billion, or 43.4% of total net sales.

Uber Tests a Subscription Bundle That Includes All of Its Services

Uber, best known for its ride sharing service, is testing a new subscription that bundles all of its services together – ride sharing, food delivery, and scooter and bike rides. At launch, Uber is piloting the subscription program in Chicago and San Francisco for $24.99 a month, says TechCrunch. The tests will include different versions of the program in each city, but the subscriptions will include price protection on each Uber ride, free delivery from Uber Eats, and free JUMP rides on Uber bikes and scooters, according to TechCrunch.

CrowdStrike Stock Value Spikes After Reporting Strong Q1 FY2020

Crowdstrike (NASDAQ: CRWD), a cloud-based cybersecurity protection firm, had a huge start to its fiscal year 2020, reporting total revenue of $96.1 million, a 103% increase year-over-year. The Sunnyvale, California-based company also reported subscription revenue of $86.0 million, a 116% increase year-over-year. In addition, Crowdstrike reported record annual recurring revenue of $364.6 million, an increase of 114% year-over-year.

Can ITV and BBC SVOD Subscription Service BritBox Rival Netflix?

Rival British broadcast stations ITV and BBC are partnering to beef up the fledgling streaming video on demand subscription service BritBox, hoping it will rival Netflix. Fans of Shetland, Victoria, Happy Valley, Love Island, Broadchurch and The Office can watch their favorite shows on BritBox for 5.99 a month. BBC reports the service will launch in the United Kingdom between October and the end of December. It launched in North America in 2017 with limited programming. To date, it has about 650,000 subscribers which is exceeding the companys targets.

Tinder Says No Thanks to Googles 30 Percent Revenue Share

Tinder says no thanks to Google and the 30% revenue share the tech company charges to apps to be in the Play Store, reports Bloomberg. Tinders parent company Match joins companies like Netflix, Spotify and Epic Games, Inc. in fighting back against Google and Apple and their revenue taxes. According to Bloomberg, Match has not yet said whether it would do the same to Apple who charges a 30% revenue share in the first year of a subscription and 15% revenue share in the second year.

Microsoft Reports Strong Finish to a Record Fiscal 2019

Last week, Microsoft [NYSE: MSFT] reported a strong finish to a record fiscal year 2019, for the period ended June 30, 2019. During the fourth quarter earnings call last Thursday, Microsoft announced revenue of $33.7 billion, a 12% increase year-over-year, and operating income of $12.4 billion, a 20% increase. Net income for the quarter was $13.2 billion (GAAP), a 49% increase year-over-year, and diluted earnings per share of $1.71 (GAAP), a 50% increase year-over-year.
