Webinar Non-Attendees May Be Your Best Leads for Subscription Sales

A number of subscription sites — particularly those specializing in online learning — have discovered the effectiveness of free Webinars for converting prospects. But did you know that non-attendees — the prospects that sign-up but can’t login in the day of the actual Webinar for whatever reason — may be your best leads? HBO May Offer Internet Subscription for HBO GO Separate from Cable

For a while, consumers have been asking HBO to allow non-cable-subscribers to gain access to their shows online through HBO GO. So far, the subscription-only cable channel has been resistant, making HBO GO available solely to existing cable subscribers. But that may be changing. HBO CEO Richard Plepler told an audience at last week’s screening of “Game of Thrones” that HBO may be willing to offer online subscriptions to HBO GO, but only through broadband partners,…

One of The Globe’s more interesting A/B tests is of its cart page. The original cart process was…

The Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEW/PEJ) released their annual State of the News Media report today, and announced that, overall, digital news consumption increased in 2012. In fact, roughly 450 of the country’s 1,380 daily papers have or are about to launch metered paywalls, allowing news media to stem the decline of circulation revenues. While most sites have not seen the sort of revenues garnered by The New York Times, many newspaper…

NYT’s Ad Tool Lets Publishers Link Ads to Content Posted on Social Media

While we usually don’t cover advertising, it’s clearly a revenue stream for a significant portion of subscription publications (just check out the chart below from our newly released Online Subscription Benchmark Report). That’s why we thought many paid content executives would be keen to know that The New York Times has released its ad tool Ricochet for use by other publishers (Forbes and The New Yorker have already signed on), and the tool could help raise…

When to Include Telemarketing in Renewal Efforts

A strategically-timed phone call can significantly improve your retention and renewal rates, says Randy Greenberg, principal at Green & Associates. Greenberg was generous to speak to Subscription Site Insider’s audience for nearly an hour this past week about how to conduct telemarketing for online subscription sales. While your current customers are the easiest (and usually most profitable) pool of candidates to convert (either to a new subscription or a longer term), Greenberg also spoke about how…
