Cheddar TV Brings Its Tech and Business News Broadcast to Radio

Cheddar TV, the streaming TV network for millennials, is growing. Last week the company announced it is taking its tech and business news show to the airwaves. Cheddar is partnering with iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, TuneIn, Amazon Alexa and Otto Radio to share its daily show from the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange, news segments, top clips and market updates. The new Cheddar Radio content will range from headline stories to full simulcasts of live Cheddar programming. Mashable reports that Cheddar will make money from the radio deals on its branded content and a revenue share from advertising.

Adblock Plus Wins Rulings in Three Separate Appeals by Publishers

Adblock Plus and parent company Eyeo are victorious in German courts once again, this time winning in three separate appeals by publishers RTL Interactive, ProSiebenSat.1 and Sddeutsche Zeitung. The appellate court in Munich, Germany upheld the previous rulings by Munich district court in each of the three cases against Adblock Plus. According to ZDNet, RTL Interactive and ProSiebenSat.1 have the option of taking their appeals to German’s highest court, the federal constitutional court of Karlsruhe.

MoviePass Switches from Tiered Pricing to a $9.95 Monthly Subscription

MoviePass is trying a new business model on for size, reports Business Insider. This time around MoviePass is offering an unlimited subscription plan for $9.95 a month, allowing subscribers to see one movie a day, except IMAX and 3D movies. There are a few caveats though. The theater must be in the United States, it must accept debit cards, and the subscriber must have an iPhone or Android phone to use MoviePass.

Google Reaches Out to Publishers with New Tools

Google is reaching out to publishers with new tools to try to earn their favor – and to compete with Facebook, reports Bloomberg. The first tool being tested is a new version of an old Google tool called ‘First Click Free,’ and it lets readers access articles from subscription publications they’ve found through Google searches. According to a Google support page, it is a way to ‘meter’ users who access paid content through Google news or a Google search. Bloomberg says that Google’s other tools will focus on online payments and the ability to target possible subscribers. By doing so, Google shows publishers it can be a partner as well as a competitor.

Online Radio Company TuneIn Raises $50 Million to Expand Programming

Online radio company TuneIn has raised $50 million in new capital to pay for original programming including podcasts and music shows, as well as pay for rights to broadcast live sporting events, says Bloomberg. Lead investors in this funding round were venture capital firms Comcast Ventures, IVP (Institutional Venture Partners) and Marker LLC. Additional investors include Causeway Media Partners, Expanding Capital, General Catalyst and Sequoia Capital, according to Crunchbase. To date, TuneIn has raised a total of $140 million.
