Parents can now manage their children’s devices outside the home with a subscription service called Circle Go, a companion product to Circle with Disney, reports TechCrunch. For just $9.95 a month for up to 10 devices, parents can apply all of their home Internet rules and apply those to their kids’ devices when their children are on the go. Created by Circle Media Inc. in partnership with Disney, Circle was designed to be used as a parenting tool for families with children ages 6 to 16.

“We believe family is everything. They are the amazing group we do life with, every day. They define our character and shape who we become. Everyone calls someone family and some place home,” Circle Media says on its website. “As technology becomes more intertwined with our lives, the key is to get the most out of it, without having it completely take over. Circle wants to make it as easy as possible to help families find that balance in their lives.”

With this subscription service, parents can create a personalized dashboard for each child, filter their kids’ web and apps usage, set limits on screen time, including setting a bedtime for the device, disable access, and see how their children are spending time online when they’re away from home. And, of course, it gives families access to Disney videos, promos, blogs, GIFs, emojis, music, games, characters and more.

Here’s how it works. Parents first purchase a $99 Circle with Disney device and download the MyCircle companion app. It operates similar to a router. Parents use the device to help them manage their children’s devices when connected to their home’s WiFi.

What the new subscription service Circle Go brings to the table is the ability for parents to extend the reach of Circle with Disney to children’s devices when they are on the go. The Circle device works with iOS Android, Microsoft, and smart home devices, but Circle Go is currently only available on iOS.

Insider Take:

Of course, we love innovation and we particularly love how the subscription model makes services like Circle Go possible. Families must make an initial investment, but they can then try the service to see if it works for them. The initial investment in the Circle device, however, is not obvious on the Circle website. We would like to see Circle make it clearer that the Circle Go subscription has pre-requisites. The $9.95 price point allows families to include up to 10 individuals on the plan which is reasonable considering the value such a management tool brings in terms of safety and oversight.
