Have you ever wanted to ‘teleport’ from one location to another? A new subscription service, Teleport, is hoping to do just that. Teleport subscribers get flat-fee flights between Los Angeles and San Francisco for just $105 each, regardless of the season or market price. With exclusive security lanes, Teleport promises advanced booking, no lines and no hassle. There are no flight change fees, cancellation fees or baggage fees.

Teleport is not an airline, however, but rather a ticketing agent that arranges flights for subscribers. All tickets are booked within the Teleport app, where subscribers choose their destination and reserve a ticket. One-way tickets can be purchased up to a month in advance or 30 minutes before the flight, if tickets on a particular flight are still available. Flights can be changed within 15 minutes before departure for free.

‘Our mission is to make flying cheaper and to minimize the hassle associated with frequent commuter flights,’ said Andre Borie in Teleport’s FAQs.

Currently, Teleport is testing the market between San Francisco (SFO) and Los Angeles (LAX). The company is planning to expand to the following cities:

  • New York City (LaGuardia Airport)
  • Boston, MA (Logan Airport)
  • Washington, D.C. (Dulles Airpot)
  • Philadelphia (Philadelphia Airport)
  • Oakland, CA (OAK Airport)
  • San Jose, CA (SJC Airport)
  • Burbank, CA (Bob Hope Airport)
  • Orange County, CA (John Wayne Airport)
  • San Diego, CA (SAN Airport)
  • Portland, OR (PDX Airport)
  • Seattle, WA (Seattle-Tacoma Airport)
  • Chicago, IL (Midway Airport)
  • Las Vegas, NV (McCarran Airport)

The company also offers Teleport for Business, an easier way for companies to manage their business travel. From a centralized, digital dashboard, companies can see all flight activity in one place, automate billing, expensing and reporting. Teleport for Business flights are priced at $175 per flight. Though the company has priced out packages for two, four, six and eight flights per month, custom packages are also available.

Teleport joins other companies in providing flight subscriptions or memberships. Last month we wrote about Surf Air who has launched a group membership plan, and in January, we wrote about Delta Private Jets for private air travel. SkyHi also offers a membership program for flights. Membership is $199 a month, and members can take up to five one-way flights each month. Flights start at $35 each.

Insider Take:

Companies like Teleport recognize that the way we travel is changing, and they are trying to create membership and subscription programs to meet consumer demand. Each of the flight subscription services offers something slightly different, but there are a few common themes: convenience, frequency of travel, specific destinations and consistent pricing. We find it interesting that Delta is the only one who actually has an airline. The others are essentially travel services – or travel apps – that make booking travel easier.

Like the car subscription market, flight subscriptions and memberships are fairly new, so best practices and a solid business model have not yet been identified. We expect this industry to evolve, and as it does, some players – like OneGo – will come and go, while others go to the front of the line as they not only meet consumer demand but they create it.
