Never run out of mouthwash, toothpaste or shampoo again. That’s the idea behind The Bathroom Sink, a membership service created by Joe Doucette, a commercial real estate agent in Phoenix, and his sister Jenna Rutschman. According to Tucson.com, Doucette started the online toiletry concierge service after recognizing a need in his own life to avoid running out of everyday toiletries like shampoo, deodorant and face wash.

Here’s how it works. For $3 a month or $36 a year, members choose the toiletry products they use every day from an extensive list and then create a delivery schedule that matches up with how quickly they go through a product. Based on the member profile, The Bathroom Sink sends email reminders to members three to five days before they run out of an item. Members then make a one-click purchase from Amazon for that item, and Amazon takes it from there.

“To-do lists seem to be getting longer and longer but where does the time go? The dream behind The Bathroom Sink is to truly cross an errand off your to-do list. Rather than running to the local drugstore or Target to grab the body wash you are running low on, for only $3 a month, our system will remind you to buy before you are low. It is that easy. Take that time saved and go for a walk, catch-up on some YouTube panda videos (our fav!), start a band or better yet, take a snooze,” says The Bathroom Sink blog.

The service goes beyond just filling orders based on a static timetable, says Tucson.com. Instead, it is based on an algorithm that calculates a customer’s usage. This is what separates their company from competitors, Doucette told Tucscon.com.

The fee structure for The Bathroom Sink is straightforward. The company generates revenue from membership fees only, says Tucson.com. It does not add mark-ups or hidden fees to purchases. Since August 2016, the company has had growth of 30 percent.

On The Bathroom Sink blog, there are clear themes about the company – saving time and simplicity.

“Do you ever wonder what happens to your weekend? Getting caught up in running errands, cleaning house and catching up on chores. Traffic sucks. Lines at Target are the worst. Let us help you get back to your real weekend,” the blog says.

Insider Take:

This looks like a winning combo – affordable membership that solves a need people may not realize they have. We all need to shop, and more of us are doing it online these days, but wouldn’t it be great to remind what you need before you need it? There are other services that offer this. Amazon, for example, offers thousands of Subscribe & Save products where subscribers can choose a frequency of monthly to every six months. Amazon sends reminders out before items ship, but it is an automatic process rather than an intuitive one.

What we like about this is how simple The Bathroom Sink concept is. The sign-up process is easy, there are no hidden fees, and the member has control over the products and the timing. As we struggle to find time to squeeze in all our personal and professional responsibilities, The Bathroom Sink may be onto something. We predict 2017 will be a year of continued growth.
