Last week Amazon posted its results for the 2016 holiday season, the company’s best ever for devices including the Echo Dot, Fire TV stick, Fire tablet and Amazon Echo. In addition, customers bought more than nine times the number of Amazon Echo devices than last holiday season.
“Echo and Echo Dot were the best-selling products across Amazon this year, and we’re thrilled that millions of new customers will be introduced to Alexa as a result. Despite our best efforts and ramped-up production, we still had trouble keeping them in stock. From turning on Christmas lights and playing holiday music to shopping for gifts and asking for help with cookie recipes, Alexa continues to get smarter every day,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer, Amazon.

Insider Take:
Amazon’s success this holiday season comes as no surprise. Simply put, Amazon makes our lives easier. We no longer have to trek to the mall for holiday gifts, fighting traffic, juggling packages and overspending. We don’t even have to go to the grocery store for milk and toilet paper for that matter. Amazon brings everything we need right to our homes, in a matter of days, or in some cases, minutes or hours. Effortless shopping at reasonable prices.
What’s even better is that Amazon does this for Prime members for one low annual fee of $99. For that fee, we get free two-day shipping, free cloud storage, Amazon Music, access to the Kindle lending library, Amazon Prime Video and much, much more. And with every new product or service added to the Prime membership, we become even more dependent on Amazon for all of our shopping needs. On top of that, Amazon has good customer service and it is easy to use. We can’t see any reason to ever leave. Jeff Bezos is counting on that.
