MaskClub Launches First Face Mask Subscription Service in U.S. with Altruistic BOGO Offer

Each subscription includes a face mask for the subscriber and the donation of a medical-grade mask to a first responder

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, a Detroit company has combined the popular BOGO offer (buy one, get one) with the first subscription club for face masks. For a monthly subscription fee of $9.99, MaskClub subscribers receive a face mask decorated with popular licensed designs like Hello Kitty, Care Bears, Batman, Superman, Powerpuff Girls, Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo, and MaskClub will donate a medical-grade mask to the First Responder’s Children’s Foundation. The foundation will then distribute the masks to paramedics and first responders. In addition to the subscription option, shoppers can buy individual masks for $13.99. Subscribers should allow up to three weeks for their masks to be made and shipped.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that Americans cover their faces when going out in public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The CDC has not sponsored or endorsed MaskClub, but MaskClub directs shoppers to the CDC website for guidance on different types of mask, so they have a better understanding of the different types of masks.

“Our mission is for each of us to protect others, not just ourselves. Each MaskClub mask you buy gives a mask to our first responders on the front lines,” says the MaskClub website.

To launch the new subscription service, MaskClub donated 5,000 face masks to the Michigan Association of Police Chiefs to be distributed to local police in the Detroit area. Each mask is handmade in the United States, helping to employ hundreds of seamstresses.

From concept to launch, the company was started in just four days. One day after the website was launched, MaskClub’s idea went viral. They describe their mission on their website:

“It all started with trying to help our local hospital in Detroit, Michigan secure needed personal protective equipment during COVID19. After we were able to get them 250,000 masks, I thought to myself, there has to be something more my company, Trevco, can do. At the same time, the CDC started recommending covering your face. And soon, cities & states across America are requiring clothing face coverings in public. We said to ourselves, ‘we can do something,’” said Trevor George, MaskClub founder.

“We are proud to be partnered with the First Responders Children’s Foundation, who provides support for first responders, such as medical personnel, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, employees directly supporting police and fire departments such as 911 dispatchers and their families,” George added.

In addition to partnering with the foundation, MaskClub partners with Homedics, who helps them source the medical grade face masks donated by MaskClub. This partnership allows the company to ensure a steady supply of masks to donate.

“Our mission from the very beginning was to build a model that combined the world’s most popular brands and giving back to first responders. MaskClub will continue to double down on this mission,” said George.

This is a great example of a company shifting its focus from its main line of business and pivoting to serve a critical need. With headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan and Rancho Cordova, California, Trevco manufactures and sells licensed, branded merchandise. The company has been able to take a related idea and shifted it to provide face coverings for consumers and donating much-needed masks to first responders.
