Get Your Subscriber Emails Into Gmail’s ‘Primary’ Inbox

Perhaps you’ve noticed that gmail has changed its inbox setting once again, automatically separating emails into Primary, Social, and Promotions. This is a serious problem for subscription content sites for two reasons: 1. Having emails, especially newsletters, filed under Promotions will certainly decrease open and click-through rates. 2. Trying to figure out a way to game the system will just force Google to change (and not publish) their mysterious algorithm, much like the ongoing SEO wars between marketers…

‘The Week’ Grows Digital Subscriptions from 21% to 40% of Total Subscribers in One Year

Unlike newspapers, consumer magazines have been hesitant to make their content available online. The Week is no exception, using both its US website and UK site to publish free, daily news updates, not the curated, summarized and analytical briefs available in its print edition. But in 2011, The Week began creating tablet and mobile apps that replicated its print content, and were only available after single-copy or subscription purchase. It then leveraged its print subscriber list…

According to a new study by The International News Media Association, 18- to 24-year-olds in Canada read an average of 1.61 different newspapers each week, while 25- to 34-year-olds read 1.47 different newspapers a week, and 35+ read 1.49…

Gannett and Netflix Grow Subscription Base, But Earnings Fall Short

Gannett Company, the owner of USA Today and other newspaper and television stations across the country, posted their second quarter earnings this week and reported a 5.2% drop. However, digital revenues saw a 20% increase to $374 million, mainly due to the implementation of a number of paywalls for the company’s regional papers. While the company does not break out subscription revenue from other revenue forms in its quarterly report, digital revenues now account for nearly…

How the NSA Scandal Will Change SEO and PPC Practices for Paid Content

For years, Google, Yahoo and Bing have been the dominant search engines because of consumer trust. But the recent NSA scandal may change all that. With the Big 3 giving access to the government agency, alternate search engines have seen a spike in traffic. One notable competitor is DuckDuckGo, which publishes its traffic stats. Note the exponential growth after the NSA story broke: What does this mean for subscription sites and paid content? DuckDuckGo hooks into open-source resources…

The mobile television and video streaming industry will hit $10 billion in overall revenues by 2017, according to a recent report by Juniper Research. The report mentions that subscription services will likely see the most growth, especially if they can make their content available across devices, including mobile and (most crucially) tablet devices. In terms of global concentration, the digital video streaming market is most concentrated to North America, Western Europe and Asia. However, Latin America, especially…

ESS can also include: Web-hosting, distance maintenance of programs and equipment Software downloads or SaaS Images, text and information and database access Music, films and games, including video games Sports, scientific and entertainment broadcasts and virtual events E-learning According to…
