Five years after launching their first original, digital series for kids, New Sky Kids founders Felipe Adams, Leigh Adams, and Mike Akel are launching their own streaming video channel and app. With a YouTube audience of more than 2 million worldwide and videos with more than 1.5 billion views, New Sky Kids will feature new episodes of its own popular shows including High Top Princess and Little Heroes: Mighty Missions. The new streaming subscription service is currently available in the U.S. for $5.99 a month, or $59 a year, after a seven-day free trial. At launch, New Sky Kids is available via the app and on iOS, AppleTV, Roku, Android and Amazon FireTV.
The idea started in 2014 with the founders who were making videos featuring their kids and their kids friends. They admit they didnt know what they were doing, but there idea took off, so they hired filmmakers and other savvy industry professionals to grow their business and to help them provide quality, family-friendly entertainment. They now have 12 original shows which they hope kids will find interesting and inspirational.

As parents ourselves, we are very aware of the difficulties in managing screen time for our kids,” said Leigh Adams, vice president of brand and culture, in a December 17 announcement. “We saw the responsibility we had before us, and it made us ask two questions. One, what kinds of stories are we wanting to tell? Because stories are powerful. And two, how do we keep our kids safe online when they’re being inundated with ads we can’t control, with inappropriate content being fed to them, and possibly meeting strangers online?”
Felipe Adams, who has three children with Leigh Adams, shared his thoughts on the launch as well.
“So we decided to build our own channel and apps to give parents the option of a super safe place online for their kids. It’s a place where our shows model good character and strong values like curiosity, kindness and teamwork. There will be no ads ever, all our shows will now premiere exclusively on our platform, and it’s available on pretty much all your devices anytime, said Felipe Adams, CEO.
The New Sky Kids website also features a blog for parents which talks about screen time and how to sift through the many options of content available. In her first post, Leigh Adams highlights six thing she has found that have helped her in making smart screen time decisions for her family. The website has a Shop Gear section too, though there are not currently any items available for sale. There is a warning to remind kids to ask their parents before buying anything online. This section will likely feature show-inspired merchandise that parents can buy for their kids.
To some this might sound like just another streaming channel, but we think this concept is amazing and we hope New Sky Kids really takes off (pun intended). The idea started and grew organically out of the desire to provide quality entertainment they trusted for their kids. They expanded their audience on YouTube which showed that they had a worthy product people wanted. They then decided to build their own platform on which to showcase their shows. This is both brave and smart.
We love the site itself which is organized, easy to navigate and kid-friendly. It is easy to see exactly what you are getting, and we love that two of the co-founders introduce themselves, explain how the idea started and why their mission is important to them. Hearing from them first hand makes the idea very easy to support. If even a fraction of their YouTube fans convert into paying subscribers, they could be very successful.
