Lime Introduces Three New LimePass Products for Bike and Scooter Riders

Making open-air travel and social distancing easier

Last week Lime expanded its LimePass line-up with three new products to give bike and scooter riders more affordable options for micromobility. The new LimePass products were launched last week in select cities in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Israel, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Lime will rollout the new products in its remaining markets by the end of June. The new products can be accessed through the Lime app, available via the App Store or Google Play.

“With local economies recovering and cities adapting to a new world, our latest LimePass offerings make commuting more affordable than ever, giving riders more ways to access safe, socially distanced and sustainable transportation,” said Will Lee, principal product manager at Lime, in the June 18 announcement.

“It’s important that we don’t overwhelm our streets with increased personal car use and congestion, and our hope is this new range of LimePass products can meet the evolving needs of riders and help everyday commuters and new users get the most out of micromobility,” Lee added.

The new products include:

  • Day Pass: Riders make a one-time purchase for a flat fee, giving them unlimited 30-minute bike or scooter rides within a 24-hour period.
  • Monthly Pass*: For a monthly subscription fee, bike and scooter riders get a set number of rides of up to 30 minutes: 5 rides per month for $16.99 or 10 rides per month for $29.99.
  • Unlock Pass: Riders can skip the unlock fee on each ride with a one-time purchase of an Unlock Pass.

*Prices vary by market.

Lime offers bike and scooter rentals. The company’s new product line-up includes discounts with subscription-based pricing.

Lime says its bikes and scooters give riders easy access to day-to-day transportation while also enjoying open-air and socially distanced travel.

“Lime is committed to ensuring the safety of our riders and communities, and is following CDC and WHO health guidelines to make sure our riders and teams are as safe as possible. Health experts believe that well-circulated, outdoor air helps to lower the chance of spreading COVID-19 – making bikes and scooters the ideal way to get around right now,” said Lime.

Lime encourages riders to protect themselves by wiping down bikes and scooters before they ride them. The company also recommends that riders consider wearing gloves as a precaution and washing their hands before and after their rides.

Insider Take:

Though not yet widely available in the U.S., we anticipate the popularity of bike and scooter rentals will grow in the years to come as commuters look for alternatives to driving, and people seek environmentally friendly transportation solutions. The bike and scooter rentals seem like a particularly good option for college campuses as students often have limited transportation and parking options. Lime’s subscription options make the cost of rides more predictable while also offering discounted pricing to regular users.
