Rock Health recently came out with a report about the health information publishing industry that’s fascinating (see slide share below).Analysts say consumers are willing to spend $14 billion on digital health products. More interestingly, they are willing to spend more than half, a whopping $8.9 billion, on tools rating physicians and hospitals. This is great news for health publications, but also local papers, who have been trying to recoup the money lost in classified listing to sites like monster.com and Craig’s list. Because let’s face it — people want a doctor that’s good and in their local area. Imagine if every local paper carried listings and ratings of local physicians and hospitals — and charged for access. Most consumers would consider that money well spent.According to the Rock report, the next biggest moneymaker looks like health-related video games at $4 billion followed by $700 million for mobile health applications.
