A new service called Unroll.Me is making it easier for your email subscribers to unsubscribe. The service allows a consumer to login to his/her email account and manage all subscriptions to all email newsletters and promotions. But the most interesting fact is the unsubscribe rates Unroll.Me has released.Notably, 15 brands had unsubscribe rates higher than 40%, and one of those was membership site Angie’s List, which is sometimes considered the gold standard in gated paywall models. Our 2013 Online Subscription Benchmark Report found that email marketing is the most cost-effective strategy for acquiring new subscribers, but this new data may indicate that Angie’s List in over-mailing its list.On the bright side, however, Hulu, Amazon, and Codeacademy had the lowest unsubscribe rates. In fact, “more than 61% of Unroll.Me users with a subscription to Hulu emails look forward to hearing more about their favorite TV shows on a regular basis.” This new data may be an indication that consumers prefer emails that update them on content and deals to ones that promote in-house deals on memberships or subscriptions. Something to keep in mind when you’re creating your next email campaign.
