The tablet world is moving and changing fast.Just this week, analysts predicted that Android devices will overtake the iPad in the tablet market by the middle of 2013. This is mainly because Google has licensed its technology to other vendors, which allows for “diversified price points,” thereby making tablets a more affordable device, and putting them in the hands of more consumers.Hopping on this bandwagon (and following the release of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD), Time Inc. has now made digital subscriptions available on Kindle Fire for all of its 20 consumer titles. Previously, the titles were available for single-issue purchase on the Kindle Fire, but subscriptions have already been launched for the iPad, Nook and other Android platforms.Time Inc. will provide both monthly and annual subscriptions to: ALL YOU, Coastal Living, Cooking Light, Entertainment Weekly, ESSENCE, FORTUNE, Golf Magazine, Health, InStyle, Money, PEOPLE, People En Español, People StyleWatch, REAL SIMPLE, Southern Living, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Sunset, This Old House, and TIME.In addition, the subscriptions will include a 30-day free trial. Which may be a bit much for the weekly publications. You want your customers to get a good sampling of the breadth of your content, but too much may be conditioning them to “free” access and cause resentment when they are charged. My suggestion would be a 30-day trial on monthly pubs, and 14-days for weeklies.
