If ever there was a subscription service I couldn’t have predicted it’s Twitch‘s new one: E-sports. Apparently, there’s a market willing to pay to watch live streaming of professionals and amateurs ascend through levels of video games and skillfully defeat bad guys with nothing but their thumbs.

The site’s new subscription service will be called Twitch Turbo and will start at $8.99/month. The biggest selling point seems to be the ad-free viewing, since the site already has live streaming video of competitive gaming. Premium subscribers also get the option of jumping the customer service line, as well as “exclusive font colors in chatrooms and better emoticons.”

The company says the average viewer watches an hour and half of video per day, indicating they have the type of loyal following that helps freemium sites convert users into paying subscribers. And the site is exploring smart ways to expand, such as working to get broadcasting enabled for consoles, phones and tablets.

So here’s to Twitch, for finding a completely new market online. Aren’t you jealous you didn’t think of it?
