A new report states that revenues from online television and video subscription revenues (SVOD) is set to reach $13 billion by 2018.That’s a significant increase from  $1 billion in 2010 to $6 billion in 2013 for streaming online video. It’s also only a portion of the pie as the entire television and movie industry is expected to generate $35 billion globally in 2018 from fixed broadband networks.Currently, advertising is the main source of revenue for most television programming, but the rise of streaming video on-demand indicates that there will also be a rise in subscription revenues. It’s estimated that 67.8 million homes have subscriptions for streaming video on demand (SVOD), but that number is expected to reach 160.6 million in 2018.The fast uptake of subscription services will likely hurt rental and download-to-own revenues across the industry. However, movie producers are set to make more.In addition, the US accounted for 37% of global on-demand TV revenues in 2012, but this proportion will fall to 30% by 2018 – despite its revenues climbing by 16%. The US currently dominates cinema attendance per capita, but China is expected to double its on-demand TV revenues, while India will triples its revenues, by 2018. Growth is also expected in other areas throughout the Asia Pacific area, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
