By Katherine NoyesSesame Street has already demonstrated its digital savvy in numerous ways — its successful use of mobile apps, for instance — and it looks like it just added another to the list. Namely, Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind the successful show, on Tuesday launched Sesame GO, a new subscription service for kids that delivers Sesame Street video on demand.Powered by Kaltura MediaGo OTT technology, Sesame GO is available through any Web browser and is optimized not just for Macs and PCs but also tablets and mobile devices. Kids can use the ad-free, child-friendly platform to watch the latest full-length TV episodes of Sesame Street plus hundreds of episodes from prior seasons and Sesame Classics Volume 1 and 2. Also included are episodes from seasons one and two of Pinky Dinky Doo. Subscriptions cost $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year.”Sesame GO provides families with a unique experience we have never offered before-a secure, ad-free environment with full-length Sesame Street TV episodes they can watch anytime and anywhere,” said Scott Chambers, Sesame Workshop’s senior vice president for worldwide media distribution. “Parents can explore the episodes with their children or they can feel comfortable allowing them to navigate on their own knowing they will only find the characters they love.”There’s been no end in sight to the video subscription services popping up lately — and with good reason. Although Sesame Street is normally free via PBS, we predict success for this new effort since the content is being offered on-demand and ad-free. And while targeting kids requires a special touch, there no doubt Sesame Street is already the expert there.
