A new poll reports that 25% of Germans pay for digital content, particularly for specialized online news, reports, interviews and comments.
In addition, 31% of the 766 surveyed internet users not currently paying for online content believed in principle with the idea, according to the study conducted by high-tech association BITKOM.
If one generalizes those results to the larger population, Germany looks to have a market of about 12 million people paying or willing to pay for online content.
There was an equal split (17% in each group) between people paying for individual articles and those buying subscriptions. But the average paying German consumer spent 13.60 a month.
There were some age disparities, with middle-aged consumers more willing to pay than older (65+) ones.
