Earlier this week, Evernote announced its new tiered subscription plan, adding Evernote Plus to its already popular basic and premium plans. If you’ve never used Evernote, this is a “must have” for anyone who wants to be more organized and productive. Whether you use the desktop version or the mobile app, Evernote allows users to create and share notes, add reminders and alarms, and sync across devices. Its clean, simple design helps users to streamline their personal and professional lives without a lot of fuss. Learn more with Evernote’s Quick Start guide.According to the company’s April 29 blog, Evernote made the changes after finding that different users wanted different things. The company wanted to meet its audience’s needs at various price points, so it added a middle tier, Evernote Plus.About the plans: Evernote Basic is the free option, ideal for beginners. The basic version can be used across devices while users figure out their organizational style and determine optimal uses for the product. Monthly uploads are limited to 60 MB. For $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year, more active users can subscribe to Evernote Plus which offers more flexibility, 1 GB of monthly uploads, offline access to notes on their mobile devices, a passcode lock, and the ability to automatically create notes directly from emails.Evernote Premium for Business takes things a step further and is recommended for individuals and teams. For $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year, users get unlimited uploads, larger individual note sizes as well as “business-critical features.” Evernote recommends using its premium product to keep writing, research, discussions and presentations for easy access and organization. See the pricing guide for specific features and limitations. Note: Prices vary outside the U.S.Insider Take:We love when companies take the time to listen to their customers and study their usage patterns to identify new opportunities. Evernote has done exactly that, finding a middle-of-the-road option for those who want more than the free version, but who don’t need all the bells and whistles. While they cite that price was not their primary consideration, Evernote has effectively created an additional revenue stream for those who want a little more than a basic product. We are also impressed by the transparency in which Evernote did this, explaining not only the new products in its announcement, but also how they made the decision to upgrade and expand. With so many companies opting for subscription business models, consumers have an increasingly wide array of choices for everything from newspapers and TV to SaaS and productivity tools like Evernote. Consumers will have to weed through all of the offers to decide what fits their needs and budgets. By making their choices clear, and explaining the rationale for the changes, Evernote made it easy for users to choose which option works best for them. Bravo, Evernote!
