Did you know that the EU requires that all websites alert visitors if they’re using cookies? That goes for sites managed by companies based in the U.S., although regulation of the EU cookie policy is fairly impossible, by the EU’s own admission. (For more on EU regulations for digital content and online subscriptions, see our Laws & Regs resource on Subscription Site Insider.)It’s unclear whether the cookie alert significantly impedes site visitation or alters customer behavior, but nevertheless, technology companies are already looking for a way around cookies, especially for metered paywalls (which are easily circumvented by “clearing” cookies). In November of last year, Piano media launched a metered paywall that didn’t use cookies, using technology developed by Novosense. One of the companies was the Slovakian newsweekly magazine .tžde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.žde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.žde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.žde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.žde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.žde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.žde?, which offers visitors access to two articles or videos before asking for a payment of€3.90 per month, €9.90 per quarter or a €39 per year.Piano is in talks negotiations with publishers in Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and has commenced market entry in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — counties all effected by the EU’s cookie regulations.
