The Association of Business Media (ABM) recently released a report stating that B2B media grew 4.8% between 2008 and 2013, now generating $26.9 billion annually. The report focused on four revenue streams: events, print advertising, digital advertising and data or business information. Unfortunately, digital subscriptions were not accounted for, though our own research shows that B2B subscriptions sales reached $5.9 billion in 2013.But what we did find interesting in the report is that data and business information grew 10.2% — a pretty steep growth for the B2B industry. And in fact, we’ve seen this in our Case Study library, where more and more B2B sites and publications are seeing the value of providing not just data to their audiences, but data analysis and insights. (You can check out our Case Studies on Boardroom Insiders, Travel42, and Datamyne for particularly stellar examples of selling data and business information.)Also of note was the fact that event revenues grew 3.3% for B2B media companies. As we’ve discussed before, live events are a $100 billion industry that’s particularly great for B2B companies, especially if they use these three tactics to generate digital engagement and sales for live events. For more benchmark data on B2B media, check out our Benchmark Report SPECIAL FOCUS: Business & Industry News Sites.
