New trends are popping up for the dating site niche.Seniors are a fast growing market, and jumping on that bandwagon is the AARP, which just announced its plans to launch a dating site in partnership with HowAboutWe.com.2012 Census information reports that there are almost 38 million unmarried Americans aged 50 and older in the US, and more than half are 50-64.And by teaming up with HowAboutWe, the AARP is hopping on another trend in online dating — going offline as soon as possible.HowAboutWe asks users to offer interesting ideas for dates, and then connects potential partners who like the suggestions. The idea of having an offline reality and “chemistry” check is a growing benefit offered by many popular dating sites, including Match.com and Grouper. And social science research has found that online algorithms are no better at matching people than other methods, so it seems that in dating, like business, a face-to-face meeting is critical to sealing the deal. For its new venture, AARP is offering its members a seven-day free trial and half off the normal rates on HowAboutWe, which charges $34.99 a month on average.
