Travelzoo Reports Record Renewals as It Swings to Loss

cac earnings membership travelzoo Jul 29, 2026

Travelzoo reported its highest number of membership renewals to date in the second quarter of 2026 as it continued investing in paid Club membership.

Revenue fell 3% to $23.2 million. The company reported a $2.8 million operating loss, compared with a $2.1 million operating profit a year earlier.

Sales and marketing expenses increased to $13.7 million from $11.5 million. Travelzoo said its accelerated investment in acquiring Club Members contributed to the loss.

Travelzoo Expects Membership Revenue to More Than Double

Travelzoo expects revenue from Club memberships to increase from $7.7 million in 2025 to approximately $17.2 million in 2026. The 2026 figure is the company’s forecast.

U.S. Club membership costs $50 a year. Benefits include negotiated travel offers, early access to Travelzoo’s weekly Top 20, a 24/7 travel assistance hotline and airport lounge access after qualifying flight delays.

Management plans to grow paid membership while continuing its Top 20 advertising business.

Membership fees and subscription revenue across Travelzoo Club and its majority-owned Jack’s Flight Club reached $5 million for the quarter, up from $3 million a year earlier.

Acquisition Cost Drops From Q4

Travelzoo spent an average of $34 to acquire an annual U.S. Club Member during the quarter. That was down from $62 in Q4 2025 and $38 a year earlier. It increased from $27 in the first quarter of 2026.

Travelzoo compared the $34 acquisition cost with its $50 annual membership fee and an average of $15 in transaction revenue per acquired member. The company said those economics produced positive payback within the quarter.

The company didn’t disclose its renewal rate, the number of renewals or its total number of paying Club Members.

Membership Spending Pressures Current Results

The timing of Travelzoo’s spending and revenue also affected the quarter. The company records member acquisition costs when they occur, while annual membership revenue is spread across the 12-month membership period.

Deferred revenue increased to $13.4 million at the end of the quarter from $8.7 million at the end of 2025.

Membership spending wasn’t the only pressure on the business. Travelzoo said international conflicts hurt its operations, while advertising and commerce revenue declined.

Insider Take

Travelzoo’s membership economics are promising. The company spent an average of $34 to acquire an annual U.S. Club Member. That’s below the $50 annual fee, and acquired members also generated transaction revenue.

The acquisition cost is well below the $62 reported in Q4, although it increased from $27 in Q1.

The renewal result is encouraging too. But without a renewal rate or paying-member count, investors and subscription operators can’t yet tell how well that performance will hold as the membership grows.

Travelzoo is building a recurring paid relationship around exclusive access, human curation and practical travel benefits. The next test is whether it can maintain its acquisition economics and give members enough value to renew year after year.
