GoodRx Expands Companion Membership to Families and Pets
Sep 09, 2026GoodRx is expanding Companion, the paid membership it is making central to its subscription strategy, from an individual product to a family plan that can also include pets.
Companion is a prescription and healthcare discount membership. It is not health insurance. GoodRx launched the Companion Family Plan on September 3 for $24.99 per month, or $16.99 per month when paid annually.
A primary member can add up to four dependents, including children, adult family members and pets. There are no age restrictions for human dependents.
The individual Companion membership, introduced in May, costs $14.99 per month or the equivalent of $9.99 per month when paid annually. For monthly subscribers, moving to the Family Plan costs another $10 and can extend access to four additional family members or pets. For annual subscribers, the difference is $7 per month on an equivalent monthly basis.
GoodRx said at launch that Companion Family provides access to more than 250 eligible generic medications at no additional cost, with hundreds of additional medications available for less than $10. The company also offers discounts on services including dental, vision, lab and imaging.
The benefits aren't identical for everyone on the plan.
Under GoodRx's terms, add-on family members don't receive discounted telehealth services. Pets can receive prescription savings but don't receive telehealth or discounts for healthcare services such as dental and vision. Some benefits, including discounted online care, remain with the primary member.
Availability can also vary by location. Companion is not currently available in Washington state, and some healthcare benefits vary by state.
GoodRx plans to offer Companion through its Employer Direct business beginning in 2027. Employers will be able to subsidize some or all of the membership cost, opening another path for GoodRx to reach members beyond direct consumer acquisition.
The Family Plan arrives as subscriptions take a larger role in GoodRx's business. Subscription revenue increased 39% to $28.5 million in the second quarter, and GoodRx ended June with 764,000 subscription plans, up from 668,000 a year earlier.
Subscription Insider reported in August that GoodRx was shifting more product and marketing investment toward subscriptions and making Companion its primary subscription offering.
Family memberships themselves aren't new to GoodRx. GoodRx Gold and RxSmartSaver+ already allow multiple members on some plans. What's new is the expansion of Companion, the product GoodRx is now putting at the center of its subscription strategy.
Insider Take
GoodRx gives subscription operators a useful example of what changes when one paying customer can extend a membership to more of the family.
The customer math is easy to see. Pay more each month and several people or pets can find value in the same membership.
The operator math is harder.
More covered members could make Companion harder to cancel because its value is spread across the family. But those additional members can also use more benefits, which may make the plan more expensive to serve.
GoodRx has made choices about that tradeoff. Some benefits can be shared. Others stay with the primary member, and pets receive a narrower set of benefits.
That's the part operators should watch. Expanding a membership isn't only about how many people can join. It's also about deciding which benefits can travel with them and which should remain limited.
We won't know yet whether GoodRx got that balance right. The useful numbers will come later: how many individual members move to Family, how much the added benefits get used and whether those families stay longer.
The test is whether broader access makes the membership more valuable to keep without making it too expensive to serve.
