Austria’s Largest Telecom Lets Customers Swap Subscription Services
Aug 26, 2026A1 Select gives customers a €6.90 monthly subscription slot they can fill with Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max and other digital services, then change what is inside.
Austria’s largest telecommunications provider has launched a new kind of subscription bundle. Customers pay for a monthly slot, then choose which digital service goes inside it.
A1 Telekom Austria launched A1 Select on August 21. Each slot costs €6.90 per month and can be used for participating streaming and other digital services.
Customers can choose a different service for the next billing period without canceling the slot and starting over.
One month it might be Netflix. The next, Disney+. Later, the same slot could be used for a fitness or learning service.
The subscription stays. The service can change.
That is the idea behind A1 Select.
Instead of buying a fixed bundle, customers buy a slot. They decide what goes in it and can change that choice over time.
Customers who want several services at once can buy up to 15 slots for each eligible A1 internet or mobile plan.
Many participating services fit within the €6.90 price.
A1 currently lists Netflix Basic at €6.90 through Select, compared with €8.99 purchased separately. Disney+ Standard costs €6.90 through Select, compared with €10.99.
Higher-priced versions of Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max cost more than the base slot price.
For eligible new A1 Select customers, A1 waives the €6.90 base fee on the first slot for six months. Extra charges for higher-priced services still apply.
A1 says customers can save as much as 30%, depending on the service they choose.
One place to manage participating subscriptions
A1 is also addressing a familiar subscription headache: keeping track of everything you’re paying for.
Customers choose, manage and switch participating services through the Mein A1 app. A1 handles the billing, although customers still use each service through its own app and account.
Existing accounts for some services, including Netflix and Disney+, can also be moved into A1 Select.
Telecom companies have bundled streaming services with internet and mobile plans for years. A1 is giving customers more freedom to change what they are buying without ending their subscription with A1.
Insider Take
As a consumer, there is a lot to like here. If I’m done with Netflix this month, I can move that spending to something else instead of starting over.
A1 keeps the subscription. I get more control over what I’m paying for.
That makes the retention model interesting, too.
If a customer swaps Netflix for Disney+, A1 hasn’t necessarily lost that subscriber. The service changed. The relationship with A1 didn’t.
The view from the participating services could be very different. A1 has made it easier for a customer to replace one with another. We don’t know how those partners feel about that tradeoff or how their commercial agreements with A1 work.
But the structure is fascinating: the slot can stay while the service inside it has to keep earning its place.
That is a subscription model worth watching.
