Starlink Doubles Subscribers to 12 Million as Average Revenue Falls-news
Aug 05, 2026Starlink added roughly 1.7 million subscribers during the second quarter as growth outside North America and lower-priced plans changed its customer mix.
Starlink reached 12 million subscribers at the end of the second quarter, approximately double its total a year earlier. At the same time, average monthly revenue per Starlink subscriber fell from $85 to $66.
The satellite internet service added roughly 1.7 million subscribers during the quarter, based on its reported totals at the end of March and June. That represents a 17% increase in three months.
SpaceX’s Connectivity segment generated approximately $4.3 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 66% year over year. The segment includes consumer Starlink service and connectivity sold to enterprise and government customers.
SpaceX has said international expansion and lower-priced plans are changing Starlink’s customer mix and reducing its average monthly revenue per subscriber. Consumer Connectivity revenue still grew 44%.
Starlink Adds Subscribers as Average Revenue Falls
Average monthly revenue per Starlink subscriber held at $66 during the second quarter, unchanged from the first quarter. A year earlier, it was $85.
That is a decline of approximately 22%.
Starlink added enough subscribers during the quarter to keep Consumer Connectivity revenue growing. SpaceX does not break out plan mix or subscriber economics by market.
Consumer Revenue Grew as Other Connectivity Sales Accelerated
SpaceX reported approximately $4.3 billion in Connectivity revenue during the quarter, up from approximately $2.6 billion a year earlier.
Consumer Connectivity revenue increased 44% to approximately $2.5 billion. Enterprise and Government Connectivity revenue rose 108% to approximately $1.8 billion.
Consumer subscriptions alone did not drive the 66% increase in total Connectivity revenue. Enterprise and government customers accounted for more than 40% of the segment’s revenue during the quarter.
The subscriber average provides only a partial view of the Connectivity business. Enterprise and government sales are growing faster than consumer revenue and are reported separately.
Insider Take
Starlink’s decline from $85 to $66 could look like a pricing problem in isolation. Subscriber totals doubled year over year, however, and Consumer Connectivity revenue grew 44%. Those results support SpaceX’s explanation that international expansion and lower-priced plans are changing its customer mix.
The missing piece is the quality of that growth. SpaceX has not disclosed the profitability, retention or cost to serve of customers on lower-priced plans.
Starlink is reaching more subscribers and growing consumer revenue while collecting less from the average account. Whether those new customers produce durable, profitable growth remains unanswered.
