Klarna Expands Paid Membership Into a Multi-Subscription Bundle
Aug 13, 2026The payments company is adding more third-party subscriptions, broader cashback and fee-free benefits as it puts paid membership at the center of a bigger customer relationship.
Klarna, the Stockholm-founded digital bank and payments provider widely known for its buy now, pay later products, is expanding its paid membership program with more third-party subscriptions, higher cashback and fee-free payment benefits.
The company announced Thursday that the revamped plans will begin rolling out across 11 European markets in the coming weeks, with other regions expected to follow.
The four membership tiers are Everywhere, which will replace Core as the changes roll out, Plus, Premium and Max.
At the top end, Klarna Max costs €44.99 per month and can include as many as 23 digital subscriptions, depending on the market. Premium costs €19.99 per month and can include as many as 12.
Partners include The New York Times, Headspace, ClassPass, NordVPN, Blinkist, foodora and several Condé Nast publications.
Those subscriptions are packaged with financial and lifestyle benefits that increase by tier. Plus members receive 0.5% cashback on Klarna payments, Premium members receive 1%, and Max members receive 1.5%. Higher tiers also include more cashback from participating partners, purchase protections and travel benefits.
Klarna says the revamped memberships can provide as much as €6,000 in annual benefits, depending on the tier and market. That is the potential value of the available benefits, not necessarily what a typical member will use or receive. The subscriptions and other benefits also vary by country.
From Payment Product to Paid Membership
Klarna has been moving in this direction for a while.
The company introduced its broader Premium and Max memberships in Europe in October 2025 as it worked to expand beyond buy now, pay later and build a larger financial relationship with its customers.
At the time, Klarna said it had more than one million active membership customers.
Now the membership offer is getting bigger.
Klarna's October 2025 European launch materials listed Premium at €17.99 per month. The revamped Premium plan announced Thursday costs €19.99. Max remains €44.99.
The benefits are expanding, too.
Premium now includes 1% cashback on Klarna payments, more cashback from participating partners and as many as 12 digital subscriptions. Max raises cashback to 1.5% and can include as many as 23 subscriptions.
Klarna is also keeping the plans flexible. Members can move among tiers rather than committing to an annual plan, allowing them to upgrade or downgrade as their needs change.
That makes it easier to try a higher tier without a long commitment. It also means Klarna will have to keep giving members enough value each month to make staying at that level worthwhile.
INSIDER TAKE
Klarna's expansion is another sign that paid memberships are becoming much broader.
The company is combining financial benefits and third-party subscriptions inside one recurring package. News, wellness, fitness and other subscription services become part of the reason someone pays for a Klarna membership.
That's an interesting shift for subscription businesses.
A bundle can introduce a service to customers it might never reach on its own. But the customer's main relationship may increasingly be with the company that assembled the bundle rather than with every subscription inside it.
There is a bigger competitive story here, too.
Subscription companies aren't competing only with similar products for a customer's monthly budget. Their products can also become part of larger memberships offered by financial companies, telecom providers, marketplaces and other platforms.
Klarna is betting that putting more value inside one recurring relationship will give customers more reasons to keep paying for the membership.
The question now is whether customers actually use enough of that bundled value to feel it. And, over time, whether that makes them more loyal to Klarna.
