Chewy Autoship Customers Drive 84.6% of Net Sales
Sep 10, 2026Customers who use Chewy’s Autoship program accounted for 84.6% of the company’s net sales in its fiscal second quarter, as spending from those customers continued to grow faster than Chewy’s total sales.
Autoship customer sales reached $2.82 billion for the quarter ended August 2, 2026, up 9.3% from a year earlier. Chewy’s total net sales increased 7.3% to $3.33 billion. Excluding recently acquired SmartPak and Modern Animal, net sales grew 5.7%.
Chewy’s Autoship number includes more than scheduled deliveries. The company counts all sales from customers who had an Autoship order shipped during the previous 364 days. That includes Autoship purchases and anything else those customers buy from Chewy.
The share keeps rising. Autoship customers accounted for 83.0% of net sales a year ago and 84.4% in the first quarter of fiscal 2026. During the first half of the year, sales from Autoship customers reached $5.65 billion, up 9.9%.
Autoship lets customers set up repeat deliveries for products they buy regularly. Customers choose how often products arrive and can change the schedule or cancel. Certain eligible products also receive an Autoship discount.
Chewy’s active customer base is growing, too. The company ended the quarter with 21.7 million active customers, up 3.8% from a year earlier. Net sales per active customer rose 1.9% to $602.
CEO Sumit Singh pointed to the “durability of our recurring revenue base” as Chewy raised its full-year revenue and profitability outlook.
Autoship has been taking a larger role in Chewy’s business for several years. In fiscal 2025, Autoship customers accounted for 83.3% of net sales, up from 79.2% the previous year. Sales from those customers reached nearly $10.5 billion, an increase of 11.8%.
Insider Take
Chewy gives subscription operators a useful look at what can happen when a recurring program becomes central to the customer relationship.
The spending around Autoship is what stands out. Customers with an Autoship relationship now account for the vast majority of Chewy’s sales, including purchases they make outside their scheduled deliveries. And that share is still growing.
For operators, the interesting part goes beyond the automatic order. The recurring relationship extends into other purchases those customers make with Chewy.
