Apple Expands Subscription Price Increases to Apple Music and Apple One

The changes follow higher AppleCare+ prices and show Apple taking different pricing approaches across its subscription products.

Apple is extending its latest round of subscription price increases across more of its services.

On July 17, Apple raised U.S. prices for Apple Music and two Apple One bundles. The changes came two days after higher AppleCare+ prices were reported for new Mac and iPad customers.

Apple Music’s Individual plan increased by $1 to $11.99 per month. The Student plan also rose by $1 to $6.99, while the Family plan increased by $3 to $19.99.

Apple told Music Business Worldwide that it raised Apple Music prices because of rising licensing costs. This is the service’s first price increase since October 2022.

Music Business Worldwide reported that the new prices are live in the United Kingdom and European markets and are rolling out in other countries.

Apple also raised prices for two Apple One bundles:

  • Apple One Family increased from $25.95 to $27.95 per month.

  • Apple One Premier increased from $37.95 to $39.95 per month.

  • Apple One Individual remains $19.95 per month.

Apple One combines Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ and other services in one monthly subscription. Apple has not publicly stated why the Apple One prices changed.

The largest increases hit Apple Music families and students

The percentage changes vary widely by plan.

Apple Music’s Family plan increased approximately 17.7%, while the Student plan rose approximately 16.7%. The Individual plan increased approximately 9.1%.

The increases were smaller for Apple One. The Family bundle rose approximately 7.7%, Premier increased approximately 5.3%, and the Individual bundle did not change.

For both Individual and Family subscribers, the monthly difference between Apple Music and the corresponding Apple One bundle fell from $8.96 to $7.96.

That improves the relative price value of Apple One compared with buying Apple Music alone.

Apple Music remains below Spotify’s U.S. prices

For comparison, Spotify Premium currently costs $12.99 per month for Individual, $21.99 for Family and $6.99 for Student.

Apple Music now costs $1 less for an Individual subscription and $2 less for Family. The two services charge the same Student price.

Part of a broader subscription pricing push

Apple isn’t raising every subscription price in the same way.

The AppleCare+ increases reported on July 15 apply to new Mac and iPad customers. Existing subscribers reportedly keep their current prices for now.

Apple Music raised prices across its Individual, Student and Family plans. With Apple One, Apple increased its two higher-priced bundles but left the Individual plan unchanged.

The customers affected vary by product. Apple also kept the Apple One entry price unchanged, shifting the relative value of its bundles.

Insider Take

A price change in one plan affects the value of every plan around it.

An unchanged entry plan can preserve the easiest way into a subscription. A smaller increase on a bundle can make that bundle look like a better value. Limiting an increase to new subscribers can reduce the immediate customer reaction, though it also delays some of the added revenue.

Apple is using each of these approaches across its subscription products.

Before raising a price, subscription teams should review the full offer. What role does each plan play? How will the new price change the relationship between the standalone product and the bundle?

Those questions matter before subscriber notices go out.
