In the mid-1970s, HBO (Home Box Office) was one of the original premium movie networks. Featuring top movies without commercials, it was only available through a premium subscription obtained through a cable or satellite TV provider or as a perk during hotels and motel stays. Now HBO is also available as a streaming video on demand service, and its content catalog and audiences have both grown significantly. Last year, HBO grew its streaming presence with the May 27, 2020 launch of HBO Max, which is already seeing early success. HBO now boasts 41 million subscribers!
