You don’t have to have a brick-and-mortar store to make the most of one of the biggest shopping day of the year – Black Friday, November 23. Subscription companies are capitalizing on the opportunity with some of their own deals, not just attracting customers for a day for, hopefully, for months or years to come. Here are a few big Black Friday deals that other subscription companies can learn from and some deal-seeking consumers might want to check out:

Adobe: Adobe is discounting its Creative Cloud subscription by 25 percent on Black Friday, dropping the monthly subscription price from $52.99 to $39.99. With this special offer, which ends November 23, Adobe’s entire collection of 20+ creative desktop and mobile apps are available, including Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, and Adobe XD CC. Subscribers also get 100 GB of cloud storage, Adobe Portfolio, Adobe Fonts and Adobe Spark with premium features, and one-month trial to Adobe Stock photos.

If you want access to all apps plus an Adobe Stock subscription, Adobe is discounting the monthly price from $82.98 to $69.98 per month. This gives subscribers 10 free Adobe Stock images every month. This portion of the subscription can be canceled risk-free during the first month. Students and teachers can get 70 percent, as Adobe drops the price for the same package from $19.99 a month to $15.99 a month for the first year. After that, the price goes up to $29.99 a year.

The offer is available to new subscribers only, and they have to make a one-year commitment. If they want to cancel their subscription, they have to do it in the first 14 days. If they do it after that, they will have to pay half the annual cost. The subscription will automatically renew at the regular price at the end of the first year.

PlayStation Plus: GameSpot reports that Sony has discounted an annual PlayStation Plus subscription to $40 a year, a $20 savings. This subscription allows players to play games online like Rocket League, Yakuza Kiwami and Fallout 76 for free, and Sony adds new games to the roster every month. This deal is available in the PlayStation Store online, but GameSpot says that other retailers including Amazon, GameStop and Best Buy are matching that offer. Want to download or stream more than 650 games? An annual subscription to PlayStation Now that service has been reduced as well. It is available for $80.

Microsoft: Not to be outdone by competitors, Microsoft is also offering Black Friday deals on everything from laptops, tablets and VR gear to gaming consoles, Xbox and Office 365 subscriptions. Office 365 Home, for example, is $79.99 a year, a 20 percent discount over the regular price of $99.99 a year. Xbox Game Pass subscriptions ($1 for the first month) and Xbox Live Gold memberships (40 percent off) are also available.

Insider Take:

Lessons learned – For digital businesses like Adobe and PlayStation, discounted subscriptions are a great way to attract new subscribers without added expense. By requiring a longer commitment – a year – they have 12 full months to win over subscribers. Some may drop off after the first year, but the subscription companies have had the benefit of extra revenue in that year. Subscription boxes are also using some great tactics to get subscribers to stay longer (free toys!), others are offering attractive promotions to get people to try different boxes, and some are even getting old merchandise off their hands with deep discounts.
