Fans of the Kardashian-Jenner clan may feel like they’ve gotten coal in their stockings this year. Last Thursday, four of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters – Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian and half-sister Kylie Jenner – announced they would not be updating their subscription apps in the new year. Since 2015, each of the sisters offered a celebrity subscription app with exclusive photos, videos, beauty advice, workout tips, product recommendations, Kardashian-Jenner news and insider secrets for a $2.99 monthly subscription fee. The closure does not apply to the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile game.

Kendall Jenner beat her sisters to the punch this time last year when she shut down her app in 2017, reported E! News, home to the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality TV series. This year’s announcement is quite similar.

“As I look ahead to next year, my goals and priorities are changing,” said the supermodel. “I’ve had an incredible 2+ years connecting with all of you, but I’ve made the difficult decision to no longer update my app in 2018. I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey as much as I have and am looking forward to sharing the next chapter with you.”

According to E! News, eight months ago, Kim Kardashian West announced the family would be closing their DASH clothing stores.

“After nearly 12 years, my sisters and I have decided to close the doors of our DASH stores. We opened our first store as a family in 2006 and, since then, we have made so many lifelong memories. From opening locations in Los Angeles, Miami and New York, to having our Dash Dolls spin-off show, it’s been a huge part of our lives,” said Kardashian West.

TechCrunch reports that the apps were “tanking,” not even showing up in the top 1,500 apps as ranked by App Annie. The app is free to download, but also offered premium paid content as noted above.

Insider Take:

Why the shuttering of the apps? Vox suggests, and we agree, that the Kardashian-Jenner sisters likely had plenty of fans for the app, but the family suffers from overexposure. You can find the Kardashians anywhere, it seems – from reality TV to social media. The Kardashians, who are famous for being famous, seem to hold no portion of their celebrity lives sacred and off limits to the public. Why pay $2.99 a month for something you can get for free?
