Perhaps you’ve noticed that gmail has changed its inbox setting once again, automatically separating emails into Primary, Social, and Promotions. This is a serious problem for subscription content sites for two reasons:1. Having emails, especially newsletters, filed under Promotions will certainly decrease open and click-through rates.2. Trying to figure out a way to game the system will just force Google to change (and not publish) their mysterious algorithm, much like the ongoing SEO wars between marketers and Google. That’s why I was so happy to get this email from WhichTestWon, which simply asks users to set their own preferences if they’d like to see their WhichTestWon email in their Primary Inbox:Subject line: INSTRUCTIONS: How to move WhichTestWon Case Studies to your ‘regular’ inbox

As you’ve noticed, Google recently changed the way your Gmail mailbox works.  Now, your Gmail box is divided into three tabbed lists – “Primary”, “Social” and “Promotions”.    It’s a neat idea in theory… but in reality, it means that all of your WhichTestWon’s Test of the Week Newsletter issues are automatically put in the “Promotions” tab where you may never see them.Luckily, you can take control of your in-box with just few clicks.  Here are some easy instructions to get WhichTestWon’s Test of the Week Newsletter placed in your Primary inbox from now on (instead of being hidden in Promotions.)Step #1. Click on the “Promotions” tab so you can see the list of emails there.Step #2. Left click on the subject line of this email or any newsletter you would like sent to your Primary in-box from now on.Step #3. Click on “Move to tab” and select “Primary”Step #4. A little box will appear near the top of your inbox reading, “The conversation has been moved to ‘Primary’.  Do this for future messages from this email? YES.”  Click on that “Yes”!Then from now on, all of your newsletters from us will go to your primary box.  Yes, you can also use this tactic for other newsletters you’d like to get in your primary box.We very much appreciate your continued readership! The Editors at WhichTestWon’s Test of the Week Newsletter

If your email service provider allows it, I would recommend segmenting your list for those emails that contain “gmail.com” and sending out a similar email today. And don’t let this be the only instructional email you send.
