Canadian conglomerate Rogers Media is launching a new tablet app that would allow readers to access a plethora of monthly or weekly digital magazines for one monthly price.More than 100 magazines will be available through Next Issue Canada app, including American titles such as Rolling Stone and The New Yorker. The app is uniquely priced according to publication frequency, i.e., for $9.99 a month, subscribers get access to all monthly titles, and for $14.99 a month, they get access to all monthly and weekly titles.Next Issue is a joint venture between publishing giants Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, Newscorp and Time Inc. It is being sold through Rogers Media, whose parent company Rogers Communication provides broadband and wireless service in Canada. This mixing of cable and internet providers with digital content subscriptions is likely to grow, although the complex contract and taxation laws in the US may be an obstacle. But HBO has also signaled its willingness to tie an Internet-based subscription to its shows with broadband services.Next Issue Canada will be available to Rogers wireless and cable customers on Oct. 15 via the iPad, Android tablets and Windows 8 devices; it will be made available to the broader population a month later.Image (c) meedanphotos via flickr.com
