By Katherine NoyesIt’s no secret that subscriber metrics are key for any digital subscription site, but tracking and reporting them accurately can be a challenge. That’s thanks in large part to the sophisticated software and highly reliable data auditing rules require, but for users of RR Donnelley’s Press+ platform, the task is about to get easier.Press+ last week announced that it has integrated its software and data with the Alliance for Audited Media (AAM) to enable seamless circulation auditing, allowing publishers to share detailed data with AAM to verify the accuracy of their circulation reports. (That doesn’t include sensitive or personally identifiable customer data, of course.)”Press+ offers a turnkey solution for publishers, which includes the metering rules of access, digital payments, best practices derived from our proprietary data and now a streamlined integration with the service that audits newspapers in the U.S. and Canada,” said Steven Brill, co-founder of Press+. “That’s a big breakthrough – and it’s emblematic of the critical role that digital accounts now play in most newspapers’ subscription and circulation strategies.”Press+ powers digital subscriptions for more than 500 publishers, a majority of which are newspapers audited by AAM, it says. The company has already been providing its publishers with detailed circulation reporting so as to help each understand the size of its digital-only subscriber base and prove that its digitally enabled print subscribers have accessed content — the two key inputs to digital circulation counts.Today, however, digital subscriptions are the fastest-growing source of revenues and profits for those publishers, it notes, making circulation accounting an increasingly critical function.”Newspapers and other print publishers increasingly are focused on their overall number of paying subscribers across print plus website, iPad/iPhone, Android, Microsoft, mobile and other digital versions,” explained Press+ cofounder Gordon Crovitz. “We are pleased to work with hundreds of publishers and the AAM to help the news industry make the transition to ‘all-access’ subscribers.”
